Webley Heating, NC2, Webley Heating, Rebbecks, RoRo, Glovers, Line, Webley Heating, Finish
‘ffirst three fflying ffifteens have ffemales in the ffront!’ … that’s a pretty good report in itself but for those interested in the ebb and flow of the race feel free to read on.
With the sun shining and a nice breeze 16 of our number crossed the start line, on the 3rd attempt. Christina and her team on the box had their work cut out with a postponement for Condor followed by a general recall causing the black flag to be raised, and it’s only the 2nd week that the fleet has raced this season!
Rounding Webley Heating to port a bank of spinnakers made their way to NC2 with the tide just starting to ebb. The fleet split with some following the channel and others, including ourselves, incorrectly choosing the more direct course closer to the island.
From NC2 it was back to Webley Heating, and the fleet split either side of the channel once more. 4025 wriggled their way up the club side increasing their lead and rounded in front of 3793, 4115 and 4101 all coming in from the left.
A nice 3-sail reach to Rebbecks followed before heading to RoRo. 4025 rounded first followed by 3793, 4101, 4115 and 3821.
Next was Glovers. A shifty leg, and the fleet pretty much followed the leader with the wind unable to decide whether to make it a run or a reach.
With no change in the top 5 at the mark the fleet split, once more heading towards the line. 3793 and 4101 led those that chose the Brownsea side. 4025 broke off, coming back to join 4115, 3821, 4019, 4088 and others sailing up the club side.
Upon crossing the line confusion ensued. A shorten course was displayed but the flag indicated it was for the Darts. 3793 crossed first and continued on to the next mark. 4025 in second, called time and headed back to the haven due to the lack of water that was becoming apparent. With no finish signal we sailed on to the windward mark only to watch the rest of the fleet behind peel off towards the haven.
Now… at that point in second place homework was not on the agenda… oh what a cruel twist of fate… but just to reiterate, the ffirst 3 ffinishers had ffemales in the ffront!
Great to see everyone, and the fleet as strong and friendly as ever!
