Vision, Mission and Values

Our vision: a vibrant community where members can fulfil their sailing ambitions throughout their lives

Our Missions

Support a wide breadth of sailing activity

We embrace and encourage all forms of sailing – from cruising to racing, dinghies to yachts, from the harbour to bay and beyond. We strive to accommodate the needs of all sailors from young to old, beginners to advanced. We encourage members to develop their skills and capabilities and to take on volunteer roles, providing training where possible. Our on-water activities are supported by an active social programme.

Maintain an active membership

We aim to retain a healthy and stable membership with a diverse profile by demographic, lifestage and sailing interest. We encourage members and family members to participate fully in all aspects of club life. Our members recognise and embrace that volunteering is a critical part of our activity.

Strengthen our infrastructure

We invest in the best facilities that we can afford, including clubhouse, yard, haven, boats, equipment and systems. We operate with high standards of health and safety.

Make a positive impact on the environment

We pro-actively seek ways to maximise our personal and collective contributions to managing our environmental footprint.

Ensure an aligned and capable organisation

We have the most appropriate organisation structure, management and staff in place to provide high standards of service and administration to members. We aim to provide our staff with a positive and motivating working experience where they have good working conditions and are well trained and resourced.

Be a good neighbour and active influencer

We engage positively and supportively with the harbour master, harbour clubs and other stakeholders in the local area. We contribute to and influence our sport at the regional and national level.

Strive for excellence and improvement

We aspire to reach the highest standards in everything we do, both on and off the water. We embrace change, and challenge ourselves to continually improve.

Protect our heritage and safeguard out future

We celebrate the history of our club, and take actions that will create a strong and stable legacy for the benefit of future generations.

Our Values

Community

We are a community united by a shared passion for sailing.
We are friendly, warm and welcoming to all: members, prospective members, staff, officers and visitors alike.
We support our members, nurturing our youth to help them develop a lifelong affinity for our sport, providing for our active sailors, and caring for those whose sailing days are now behind them.
We promote and celebrate the volunteer culture upon which we are founded.
We have a diverse range of sailing interests and recognise that the strength and vibrancy of our club depends on this breadth of activity.

Aspiration

We all – members and staff – aspire to be the best that we can be in all aspects of our activity, whether on water or land.
We run our operations professionally, efficiently, and safely.
We look for opportunities to improve and grow, and are open and responsive to constructive feedback.

Respect

We are polite and courteous to each other at all times.
We are tolerant and generous, and listen to and welcome other points of view.
We treat our facilities and resources with care.
We have high integrity and act honestly and fairly.
We set and maintain the highest standards of sportsmanship.
We celebrate our history and traditions.

Enjoyment

We sail for fun, and relish the challenge and satisfaction of being on (or near) the water. For each of us this means something different: it could be winning a national championships, competing in a club race, enjoying a relaxing cruise around the harbour, adventuring across an ocean, volunteering to do a patrol boat duty, helping another member improve their skills, attending a talk… or having a drink with family or friends in the bar.

Sustainability

We recognise that we are temporary custodians of our club, the harbour and the planet.
We seek to make prudent and long-term decisions that will ensure the continued viability and strength of the club and its environment.
We aim to leave a positive and lasting legacy for future generations.
