The 200 fleet at Parkstone is one of the largest in the country, and certainly the most active in terms of class racing anywhere in the UK. We race on Wednesday evenings (6:35pm start in summer) and Saturday afternoons (2:30pm start). We hit a record turnout in 2015 with 28 boats on the start line for 'Big Wednesday', club racing with Open Meeting numbers!
While the racing is very competitive and at the front the standard high, we are a very friendly, welcoming and sociable fleet. We regularly have former and current Olympic sailors competing, couples that sail together, all female teams, some very talented youth sailors and a few of us oldies demonstrating the boat is well suited to a wide age range and mix of helm/crew combinations. The results at club and open level show that older boats are just as competitive as new boats, and while boats hold their value well, it means that buying a boat and getting started is not such a great expense.
As well as the club racing, we run a number of our own 'mini-series' each year, 6 short back to back races in one afternoon, great for improving your starts and boat handling. We also host an open meeting each year for the South West Circuit which is their flagship event (in 2024 this will be the weekend of 13th/14th July and we expect a fleet of 40+ boats, as this will also be the RS200 Southern Championships - a National Circuit 2 day event). In addition we run a number of training sessions, in recent seasons we have had training from fleet member Niki Birrell, coaches Steve Irish and Mark Rushall, and 200 guru's Matt and Emma Mee.
