Recorded during a training day with Adam Bowers, this video shows a good tack in 5-8 knots of wind.
Things to note:
- Slow into the tack with only half to two thirds of the rudder used. Allowing the maximum gain to windward to be made.
- Jib released only after the boat has passed through the wind.
- Crew and helm only start to move with boat almost on the new close-hauled course.
- Once through the wind, more rudder is applied to bear away to the new course more quickly
- No big oversteer coming out of the tack, giving away VMG.
