October 2023

166 ILCAs (Lasers) entered the UKLA Qualifier event in Portland this weekend which included 16 boats from Parkstone.
It turned out to be a most memorable weekend for the Hakes family as Roger and his 2 sons, Tom and Will, received prizes at the prizegiving. Roger was first Master (or Old Man!) in his ILCA 7 whilst Tom and Will were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the ILCA 4 class.
Robbie Phipps did particularly well in the highly competitive ILCA 6s coming 6th in the 78 strong fleet. In the 7s Oliver Allen-Wilcox was 1st under 21 and Freddie Howarth 1st under 19.
Notably there were 7 Parkstone sailors in the first 14 of the ILCA 4 fleet, a good sign for what’s to come in future years.
Bryan says that life on the Committee Boat over the 2 days was action packed with 30 races being delivered for 5 different classes of very competitive ILCA sailors.
Well done to all who went.

June 2022

The RYA South and South West Regional Junior Championships were held at WPNSA at the weekend.

Parkstone sailors competed in Optimists, Toppers, Fevas and ILCA 4s, and enjoyed lots of racing thrills and spills in the strong winds, with some also lucky enough to spot dolphins between races! With very challenging conditions on both days our sailors should be proud of the sailing skills and resilience that they displayed.

Parkstone was awarded the ‘Club Trophy’ with 38 sailors representing almost 20% of the total entries.

Special mention to Lila Edwards, winner in the Optimist class, and Tom Hakes, winner in the ILCA 4 class.
