Autumn series - 13th Nov 2022

Blue sky, 20 degC, warmish water, and a small amount of tide. It could almost be Poole Week except there is an ESE breeze of 13 to 16 knots with a promise of a little more wind later. With Andrew “a good one is 2-hours*” Hartley as RO. The stage is set for a great morning’s race. The final course is revealed at the last possible moment, lots of “U”s were added. Then a U Flag, no General Recalls allowed here, we are here to sail, not sitting around waiting to restart.

And then we are off. A course for everyone to enjoy, some fast reaches, and a few windward leeward legs what more do you want. Ian should know where Morris Lane is now. At the front Alan was taunting Chris (W) by letting him catch up and then sailing off, Roberta kept Donald, Hugh and Colston behind her, I think Simon thought he might be able to get ahead in these conditions but not today. There were a few capsizes; John took a dip to avoid hitting Gary, others because the wind was a bit gusty, personally I capsized to give Colston a healthly lead.

The best bit, the fast reach from Rebbecks to M although Chris (G) might not agree.

When the RO allowed us to stop racing, Alan was the first ILCA7 and Roberta the first ILCA6, but really when you get to sail in these conditions we were all winners.

Until next week – Keep Hiking

*ILCA races should be at least 2 hours – other stories are available
