What to expect...
Ever wondered what really goes on behind the scenes of the NHS?
Join fellow member and Dart sailor Katrina Kennedy for a fascinating journey through 40 years of life in healthcare, as she shares stories, insights and reflections from her book, An A–Z of the NHS.
Katrina began her career as a physiotherapist at St Thomas' Hospital in 1986 and went on to become a senior NHS leader, while never losing touch with the patients and people at the heart of healthcare. Four decades later, she's still treating patients here in Dorset and helping to train the next generation of physiotherapists.
Her book takes us through the NHS from A to Z, with 26 short chapters exploring everything from life on the wards and clinical mishaps to NHS politics, leadership, burnout, resilience and the extraordinary kindness of those working within the system.
Expect an honest, entertaining and sometimes moving look at life inside one of Britain's best-loved institutions. There are challenges, frustrations and heartbreak along the way, but also humour, humanity and those small, magical moments that make it all worthwhile.
Whether you've worked in the NHS, been a patient, or simply wondered what life is really like on the other side of the hospital doors, this promises to be a fascinating evening.
Come along, hear Katrina's stories and discover the NHS through the eyes of someone who's spent 40 years helping to make it work.
